What began as a solidarity response to COVID-19 is today a movement that feeds hope
We are a nonprofit organization driven by volunteers that was born during the COVID-19 pandemic to fight hunger in Tijuana.
Tijuana Sin Hambre is an innovative concept in binational philanthropy, with individual and corporate donors on both sides of the border. We collaborate with major institutions such as This Is About Humanity and the International Community Foundation (ICF). Accountability and transparency are guaranteed internationally through our ICF fiscal sponsorship, complying with all applicable regulations on both sides of the border.
We currently operate a kitchen in the Centro area of Tijuana, where food is prepared and distributed to more than 30 shelters in the city.
In less than five years we have positioned ourselves as leaders against hunger and malnutrition in the city. In Tijuana, 4 out of every 10 people living in poverty suffer from severe food insecurity.

Our Trajectory
Every step tells a story of impact.
2020 — Beginning
Tijuana Sin Hambre was born at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by 300 volunteers, as a rapid response to the hunger and unemployment crisis. Its founders are María Eugenia Riqué de Vargas and Fausto D. Vargas Campos.
2021 — Alliances
We managed to form alliances with suppliers on both sides of the border to rescue food and purchase supplies at cost.
2022 — Kitchen
We continued the legacy of World Central Kitchen on the border, where they distributed 900 daily meals to 11 shelters. WCK donated all the equipment to us; we tripled the number of beneficiaries and reduced the monthly budget by 68% thanks to alliances and corporate volunteering.
2023 — Achievements
We reached the milestone of 788,090 meals distributed in 21 shelters across our city and positioned ourselves as the strongest foundation against hunger on the Tijuana–United States border. The "Social Commitment Award" Bocuse D'Or was won in Lyon, France, representing Mexico by chefs Ruffo Ibarra and Marcelo Hisaki.
2024 — Volunteering
We had a volunteer corps of 1,226 people including corporate, student, and individual volunteers on both sides of the border, with active participation in support activities at the Tijuana Sin Hambre Kitchen.
2025 — Program
Food rescue aims to reduce food waste in Tijuana by rescuing and redistributing surplus food fit for human consumption, in order to combat food insecurity and minimize the negative environmental impact associated with food waste.
2026 — Numbers
To date we produce more than 1 million meals per year, have 2,500 active volunteers, and prepare 3,500 daily meals distributed to 37 civil associations across the city.
