Food Rescue

Rescuing food to fight hunger. We turn surplus into meals for families in Tijuana, promoting food security and sustainability.

The Food Rescue program, driven by the International Community Foundation, focuses on reducing food waste in Tijuana by rescuing and redistributing surplus food fit for human consumption. Our goal is to fight food insecurity and minimize the negative environmental impact associated with food waste.

To achieve this, we maintain a precise record of the kilograms of food rescued, allowing us to quantify the volume of food we prevent from going to waste.

Furthermore, we calculate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions generated by food waste, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability.

Finally, we monitor the increase in the number of meals provided to vulnerable families, ensuring that our efforts translate into a direct and positive impact on the food security of our community.

Our strategy centers on the following key points:

  • Identification and establishment of donor partnerships
  • Efficient and safe food collection
  • Food sorting and selection
  • Proper temporary storage
  • Establishment of partnerships with recipient organizations
  • Timely and equitable distribution
  • Awareness and education
  • Impact monitoring and evaluation
